INTENSIVE ORGANIC FARM IN ARID ZONE

5 months to start a farm in a field, desert ...

Design of an intensive organic farm, on the model of Jean-Martin Fortier, but adapted to arid environments to supply local networks in the Marrakech region. On the agroforestry model, integrating grazing corridors  holistic and small breeding (Allan Savary).

Implementation of the project :

Mission: Design, implementation and realization of the project with staff training.

  • Arboriculture,

  • Market gardening,

  • Production of cereals and green manures,

  • Creation of a plot of saffron (crocus sativa),

  • Small livestock: goats, sheep on rotary pasture ,

  • Chicken coop under vines,

  • Wild area to accommodate beehives,

  • Restoration of the adobe walls.

General informations :

  • Overall surface area: 3.5 ha,

  • Water: borehole 110m, engine converted to gas, slightly salted water,

  • Market gardening area: 5000m², first season on 2000m²,

  • 1 production greenhouse under cover of 200m²,

  • 1 seedling greenhouse of 80m²,

  • Production of fodder (alfalfa) 1500m²,

  • Zone 5: 1500m²,

  • Corridors of fruit trees with rotating pasture and green manure cycle, 9000m²,

  • Drip irrigation - "borehole" water,

  • Duration of implantation: 5 months,

  • Personal training follow-up 6 months,

  • With an average production of 1,200 kg monthly over 2,000m² at the height of the season.

by theme ...

DESIGN

Bio-intensive farm with rotating pasture

  • 3 ha in mixed farming, pasture corridors under green manure, fodder, fruit trees, zone 5 for bees.

  • Market gardening of 5000m² in agroforestry (line of trees every 8m) under vine shades against the hot summer months and multiply the levels of crops.

  • Install arboreal corridors (fruit trees) with grazing corridors and green manure cycles.

  • The goal is to have areas of soil regeneration improved by the passage of animals.

  • An alfalfa (fodder) production area.

  • Rehabilitation of the sheepfold.

LOCATION

Realize the design

  • Prepare traffic routes

  • Start composting for fertility

  • Set up irrigation

  • Stake out growing areas

  • Place shades, basins

  • Prepare agroforestry and grazing corridors

DESIGN

COMPOSTING

Preparation for crop fertility

  • Routing of 220m3 of straw manure for composting,

  • Windrowing by moist layer to start the hot composting process,

  • Covering the windrows to prevent rain leaching,

  • Amendment of market gardening soils, 1 wheelbarrow (70l per linear meter of crop) in poor, clayey soil, very low organic matter content.

CULTURING

Crop launch

  • Wheel seeder.

  • Fast crop rotation.

  • Optimization of spaces.

AGROFORESTRY ROTATING PASTURE AND ZONE 5

Regeneration of soils, grazing corridors and zone 5 (wilderness).

  • Installation of 9000m² of rotating corridors between rows of fruit trees sown with worms.

  • Production of fodder (alfalfa) for supplementary food.

  • Sheepfold with a capacity of 25 heads.

  • Zone 5 of 1500m² which will accommodate 3 beehives.

HARVEST, SEED PRODUCTION

Harvesting, packaging, baskets, local markets

  • 1200 kg per month at the height of the season on 2000m².

  • Organic markets, baskets for individuals.

  • Seed production from the field to become autonomous.

FENCE, HEDGES, BERGERIE

Hedge and earthen enclosure walls

  • Rehabilitation of traditional "pisé" walls.

  • Setting up a hedge.

  • Rehabilitation of the sheepfold.
